Relay for Life sponsors Survivor Dinner

-A A +A

For the second year, the LaRue County Relay for Life County Committee is sponsoring a dinner to honor those in the community who count themselves as cancer survivors.

About 100 invitations were mailed this past week to known survivors, but the actual number of survivors is unknown in the county, according to Survivor Chair Kathy Ross.

“This is why we need people to step up and tell us about a family member or neighbor who conquered the disease. Our list is limited and we want everyone who is a survivor or is currently battling it to feel free to attend the March 21 event,” said Ross. “Last year we had a great turn out for our first attempt to honor our local survivors. The County Committee wants this event to continue to grow. It was wonderful to see so many survivors gathered in one place.”

The 6:30 p.m. meal will be held at First Baptist Church Hodgenville’s gym at 730 Tonieville Road. Sister Rita Jerrell, a Hero of Hope from the Louisville area, will be guest speaker.

Survivors are guests and a minimal charge of $5 will be collected at the door for those accompanying survivors. For more information, call Ross at 234-3309 or contact any Relay team captain. Reservations are being accepted through March 15.

In other news, employees of Sunrise Manor recently rejoined the LaRue County Relay which is scheduled for Friday, May 17 at Hodgenville Elementary School. It is still not too late to form a team. Visit www.relayforlife.org or contact Bill Hawkins at bill.hawkins@cancer.org.

The LaRue County Relay for Life County Committee will be on hand at the Extension Expo 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16. Stop by their booth for some informational brochures and a slide show.
