Last year, the Central Hardin Lady Bruins hoped to meet the Green County Lady Dragons in the 5th Region Softball Tournament final.
That didn’t happen. And it won’t happen this year, either.
During Saturday morning’s region tournament draw meeting at host LaRue County, the ninth-ranked Lady Dragons (28-6) and the No. 11 Lady Bruins (31-4) both drew into the top bracket, meaning they could meet in the early semifinal at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The tournament features four quarterfinals Monday. Green County, the 18th District Tournament champion, meets 20th District runner-up Taylor County (14-15) at 1 p.m. Monday. Green County notched a 4-0 win over the host Lady Cardinals on April 29.
Central Hardin plays 19th District runner-up Washington County (11-11) at 7 p.m. Monday. Central Hardin earned a 7-0 win over the visiting Commanderettes on March 29.
The North Hardin Trojans (17-17), who lost to Central Hardin in last week’s 17th District final, meet 19th District champion Nelson County (11-19) at 3 p.m. Monday. North Hardin did not face the Cardinals in the regular season.
The LaRue County Lady Hawks (12-21), the 18th District runner-ups, play 20th District champ Adair County (25-9) at 5 p.m. Monday. The Lady Indians beat LaRue County twice in the regular season, winning 6-5 in Hodgenville on April 28 and 6-1 in Columbia on May 19.
The semifinals are at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The final is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday with the region champion advancing to play the 13th Region champ (Barbourville, Bell County, Clay County, Corbin, Harlan County, Knox Central, North Laurel or South Laurel) at 6 p.m. June 9 in the first round of the state tournament at Jack Fisher Park in Owensboro.
Admission is $6, which includes all games for that day. Games will not start earlier than scheduled.
