REGIONAL BASEBALL: Central Hardin hosts games

On first glance, the bottom half of the 5th Region Baseball Tournament bracket appears to be loaded.

Three of the four teams with winning records in the tournament, which will be held at Central Hardin, are in bottom half of the bracket. All three teams have 24 or more victories.

Defending region champion Central Hardin, the 17th District champion, meets the 19th District runner-ups Nelson County Cardinals (12-20) at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The Bruins (29-4) beat Nelson County, 12-0 on May 14.

The most intriguing first-round matchup matches 18th District champion LaRue County (24-8) against 20th District runner-up Taylor County (24-12) at 4 p.m. Monday. The teams didn’t meet during the regular season.

In the bracket’s top half, the 17th District runner-up Elizabethtown Panthers (17-18) play 19th District champion Washington County (22-10-1) in the first quarterfinal at 11 a.m. Monday. The teams haven’t met since last year’s semifinals.

The 20th District champion Campbellsville Eagles (15-19) hook up with the 18th District runner-ups Green County Dragons (15-19) at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Green County edged the Eagles, 5-4 on March 29.

The semifinals will be Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. and the final is set for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $6.
