LaRue County Solid Waste Manager Jill Gray reminds residents to use the correct bin when putting items in the recycling center.
Sometime over the weekend, someone put glass in the newspaper bin. The glass either broke when it was placed inside – or was broken already, Gray said.
Gray is concerned for the safety of workers who are trying to separate the recyclables. It’s not a problem when someone places plastic in the wrong bin – but broken glass is a different story.
“It could have been a serious injury,” she said. “Usually, you don’t think about getting cut, except for a paper cut, when you put your hands in newspaper. We were being careful or (the glass) could have caused a serious injury.”
