The May 20 primary is only weeks away.
Two political forums are planned for next week to give the public a chance to learn more about the candidates in several races.
The “Measure the Candidate” forums, sponsored by the LaRue County Farm Bureau and LaRue County Chamber of Commerce, will be 7 p.m. March 18 and 20 in the upstairs courtroom of the LaRue County Courthouse, 209 W. High St., Hodgenville.
Written questions can be submitted to a moderator starting at 6:30 p.m. Questions will be screened before being presented to candidates.
Candidates will be allowed a two-minute opening statement, followed by a short question period. Candidates are allowed two minutes to respond to each question – and an additional three minutes to make a closing statement.
On March 18, county attorney candidates Tom Claycomb and Kyle Williamson; and sheriff candidates, Terry L. Cruse, Tim Ford, Russell McCoy, James “Doc” Pepper, and Dennis Wells – all Democrats – have been invited to speak.
On March 20, 24th District state representative candidates Terry Mills, a Democrat, and J. Alex LaRue and Richard Treitz, Republicans, have been invited to speak. (Amber Rogers Dones, a Republican candidate, has dropped out of the race.) They will be followed by PVA candidates Scotty Lee and Chad Puyear; and county judge/executive candidates Joe Pearman, Jerry Rock and Tommy Turner, all Democrats.
There is no charge to attend.
