A new manufacturing industry is headed to Elizabethtown.
WL Plastics Corp. will open a pipe manufacturing facility next spring, which will create about 40 jobs in management and production, the company announced. The company plans to begin filling those positions in March, according to a news release.
“It’s good news in a down economy,” said Rick Games, president and COO of the Elizabethtown-Hardin County Industrial Foundation.
WL Plastics manufactures smooth-wall polyethylene pressure pipe, which is used in applications such as water, sewer and irrigation systems. The corporation operates plants in Wyoming, Utah, Texas and Alberta, Canada, according to the industrial foundation.
The facility will be on West Park Road in the Hughes Industrial Park, Games said.
The company has been looking at the area since 2004, Games said. It purchased the land in May 2008 and hired Jenkins-Essex Construction to build the plant.
The firm already has a lot of the design ready and hopes to begin construction after business permits are approved, Games said.
“They’re ready to go,” he said.
Michael Dahl, a director at WL Plastics, said Elizabethtown has many benefits, including being near Louisville and having a technical college. After having to hold off on plans for a variety of reasons, including the economic downturn, Dahl said the company is excited to start work in Elizabethtown.
“We’re thrilled to get going,” he said. “We think this is going to be one of our best plant locations.”
