Open houses, student registration scheduled by schools

Scheduling registration a few weeks before school starts is a good way for LaRue County High School, as principal Paul Mullins says, “to be ready to start school when school starts.”

“We want to spend as much time as we can in instruction once the term begins,” Mullins said. “Students pick their classes in the spring for the next school year so that by registration time, their schedules are made out.”

This year’s registration is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 27 in the school library.  During that day students pick up their schedules, pay fees and receive their laptops if their parents have had the required training.

“We want the parents, as well as their children, to know how the student’s laptop works as well as understand the rules and expectations that go along with their child having access to the computer both at school and at home,” Mullins said.

No training is given during registration, but two one-hour parent training sessions are scheduled for July 23, the first at 11 a.m. followed by another at 6 p.m. at the school. Mullins said forms needed for registration are available weekdays in the school’s office.

Freshman orientation is scheduled for July 31. The school’s open house is slated for 6-7:30 p.m. Aug. 21.

“Unlike a lot of schools, we hold our open house a couple of weeks after classes have started,” Mullins said. “By that time, the students have for the most part settled into their schedules.”
