LaRue County Community Action Toys for Tots boxes have become a familiar sight around the area and are making their seasonal debuts this month.

The Toys for Tots program has been very successful in the past donating toys to more than 400 children for Christmas 2011, according to current Community Action Coordinator Faith Miller.

Miller’s presence around the county has also become a familiar sight over her last seven years but as the season changes so will the coordinator position.

Miller will make the jump from Hodgenville to Elizabethtown and take over Hardin County’s Community Action coordinator position.

Replacing her as LaRue County’s Coordinator will be Jessica Arroyo, who is currently interim coordinator alongside Miller.

“As long as you have compassion for the community you can succeed at this job, and she does,” said Miller about Arroyo. “The paperwork can be taught, but compassion can’t be.”

Arroyo, a native of California, will take over the position in November. The Toys for Tots program will be one of her first major assignments.

“I’m loving this area and the people have been more than friendly,” Arroyo said.

Arroyo visited Hodgenville in 2010 before deciding to move here permanently six months ago.

“I knew that I wanted to come back to Hodgenville as soon as I left – it feels homey, the way I want a community to feel,” said Arroyo.

This year’s Toys for Tots boxes can be found at Bank of Buffalo, Magnolia Bank and Lincoln National Bank and all of their locations; as well as Allen’s Heating and Cooling, Nationwide Uniform, and WL Plastics. You can also donate to the box at LaRue County’s Community Action building at 120 S. Greensburg St., Hodgenville.

Toy donations are needed for ages 12-and-under; gifts for teens and monetary donations are also needed.

The donated gifts should not be wrapped and should be new toys still in packaging. The LaRue County Community Action building is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Donations will be accepted until Nov. 30.
