Two Nelson County residents, Doug Kessler and Gilbert Chumbley, want Kentucky’s Fence Law changed. The men became aware of the law after a neighbor sued them to pay for half of a fence to divide their properties.

Kentucky’s fence law requires the cost of construction or replacement of a farm boundary-line fence to be shared by neighboring landowners.

Chumbley, who bought his property in 1977, said he would not have purchased the land if he had known about the law.
