NARFE meets Oct. 1

 Chapter 1050 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees met Sept. 10 at the Elizabethtown Nolin RECC Building, 411 Ring Road.

Kay Bennett presided and welcomed guests Betty and Gene Yates, family members of Agnes Cofer. Bennett then presented the Distinguished Member Award to Agnes Cofer, Past President of Chapter 1050. 

Program Chair Mary Tom Haun introduced the guest speaker for the meeting, Larry Mengel of Habitat for Humanity. Mengel spoke about building houses of hope and how they are funded through donations and the ReStore. He also mentioned the Hardin 500 Pledge to assist with this program.

Legislative Chair Willie Little reminded the membership to stay in touch with our congressmen on civil service issues in today’s climate. Little also brought the report from the recent National Convention. The 2014 Convention will be in Orlando. 

Service Center Chair Sam Alexander assisted three retirees with OPM issues over the past month. He also mentioned that he has the Be Prepared for Life Events books if you would like one of these books.

Nomination Committee Chair Mary Tom Haun needs someone to take the treasurer position, as well as the telephone and the name tag committees.

The next State Convention will be in Bowling Green. Chapter 1050 will be involved in helping with this convention. 

Lilo Figueroa won the 50/50 drawing and Peggy Johnson won the door prize. 

The next meeting is 11 a.m. Oct. 1 at Nolin RECC with election of officers and guest speaker Roger McCurry.

The NARFE Service Center will be open 9-11 a.m. Oct. 1 to assist with OPM issues.
