NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, will hold a series of 12 classes to help family members understand individuals with serious mental illness, while maintaining their own well-being.
Nelson County’s Family-to-Family program will host the event 6-8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning March 19 at Communicare, 333 S. 3rd Street, Bardstown.
The event is free for family members of those dealing with major depression, bipolar disorder (manic depression), schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and co-occurring brain and addictive disorders.
The course is taught by a team of trained NAMI family member volunteers who know what it's like to have a loved one struggling with one of these brain disorders. There is no cost to participate in the NAMI Family to Family education program. Over 300,000 people in the U.S, Canada, Mexico and Italy have completed this course.
