Paul Mullins, principal of LaRue County High School, will be the new superintendent of Garrard County Public Schools.
Mullins' appointment was announced about 5 p.m. Thursday by the Garrard County Board of Education.
Mullins informed his staff of his decision Thursday. The Elizabethtown native served eight years in LaRue County.
He takes over July 1.
Mullins succeeds superintendent Donald Aldridge, who announced in January that he would retire at the end of the school year. Aldridge held the post for four years.
There were 39 applicants for the Garrard post, according to the Lexington Herald Leader.
