Ministry through childcare

One LaRue County family is working to provide children with a sense of being loved and knowing God’s love through their work and service as a childcare center.

Patty Edwards, owner of Bullfrogs and Butterflies Childhood Development Center, found a need for Christian based childcare in LaRue County; “After the birth of my grandson, my daughter-in-law, Wendi, wanted to find a Christian based center,” said Edwards, “She had worked for a Christian childhood center in Elizabethtown and wanted one closer to home but there really wasn’t one, we found a real need for one in this area.”

“Since there wasn’t one here Wendi and I thought, ‘why not start one ourselves?’” Edwards said, “We found this building and opened in June of 2009.”

At Bullfrogs and Butterflies the children are read Bible stories daily, and they say prayers before their meals. “Christian values and Bible stories are what we are about but most of all we want the kids to know that they are loved and God loves them,” Edwards said.

“We decided on the name ‘Bullfrogs and Butterflies’ because both go through metamorphosis which is change and that’s what happens when you meet Jesus, you change, you go through a metamorphosis,” said Edwards.

With all day care for infants, beginning at 6 weeks old, to preschoolers as well as afterschool care for school age children up to 13 years old and two floors, an indoor play area and outside playground there is plenty of room for children to romp and expend some energy; “The kids need to get out and run even if they can’t get outside because of the weather; we have the basement play area for them to get out of their classroom twice a day,” said Edwards.

Edwards said all teachers complete early education hours, there is at least one teacher per class that is CPR certified and their basement also includes a storm shelter as well.

There is a waiting list for interested parents for most of the classes. They currently have approximately 120 children per day. They are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. They are located at 623 Tanner Road. Their phone number is 270-358-0022.
