The LaRue County Middle School MATHCOUNTS team of Jordan McGaw, Tyler Skaggs, Christian Pope and Zachary Thurman will compete in the State MATHCOUNTS competition March 28 in Lexington.

The LCMS team of 8th graders placed third in the My Old Kentucky Home Chapter competition at East Hardin Middle School Feb. 28. About 50 students from seven area schools competed. McGaw placed third, Skaggs placed fourth and Pope placed ninth.

Seventh grader Chance Johnson placed 12th individually.

Coach Doris Jean Holleran said that LCMS was the only school to have four students finish in the top 12 individuals. Other students who competed from LCMS are seventh graders Melika Menard, Joey Gearon and Dalton Puckett. Sixth graders Brian Anderson, Darian White and Christian Hensley competed as alternates.

MATHCOUNTS is a national math enrichment, coaching and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement in every state.
