A Hodgenville man was indicted in October by a LaRue County grand jury on a charge of first-degree criminal abuse of a baby.
Charles Anthony Haire, 24, is accused of causing serious physical injury to a person under age 12 and subjecting the child to torture, cruel confinement or cruel punishment between Sept. 22 and 24.
According to Kentucky State Police, a family member reported possible child abuse of a 1-year-old to an officer at Post 4 in Elizabethtown.
The officer noted bruises resembling hand or finger marks on the baby’s face. The child had a red area on her nose that appeared to be a bite mark; her right ear was red, appearing to have been bruised or injured.
A mark on the child’s right foot appeared to be a cigarette burn.
“The investigation is ongoing, but the Kentucky State Police and our office want to protect this baby from any further abuse, said Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Whitney Meredith. “We will prosecute this case to the fullest and make a complete review of the medical records.”
Haire was lodged in the LaRue County Detention Center. Bail was set at $100,000 cash only plus condition of no contact with child and child’s family.
He was arraigned Nov. 5 in LaRue Circuit Court. Pre-trial conference is Feb. 15 with trial-by-jury set for Feb. 25.
