Young at Heart Choir performing Christmas concerts

By Doug Ponder

A group of church members in LaRue and surrounding counties are making the Christmas season merrier for a lot of folks as they travel around the area performing Christmas concerts.

The Young at Heart Choir includes more than 20 members from ten different churches. They perform Christmas concerts at regional nursing homes and churches. Choir member Reba Duell said the group’s next free concert for the public is at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 10 at the Hodgenville Civic Center. The next free concert for the public is at 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 17 at LaRue Baptist Church in Hodgenville. The Christmas programs will include familiar Christmas carols set as medleys and will also include narration.

“This is our gift to the community,” Duell said. “We hope that people take away the true meaning of Christmas.”

Duell said they are always looking for new members and that they also perform periodically throughout the year at nursing homes and churches. The choir is directed by David Rock and Ann Gibson plays the piano for the group.

“I am the only member of the group from when it first started.” Duell said. “We always welcome new members and anyone can join as long as they are older than 55. It’s a great thing. We share our good times and bad times with each other. We have a lot of fun.”

The choir practices at First Baptist Church in Hodgenville at 10 a.m. every Monday except for holidays and inclement weather.
