Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland has initiated a new pilot program called “Adopt-A-BackPacker” for the 2009-10 school year. The program is designed to help fund the ever-increasing cost and to allow for expanded participation in the BackPack Program.

The “Adopt-A-BackPacker” Program allows individuals to sponsor one child or more on the BackPack Program for an entire school year. Donors can choose a one-time donation of $80 or $7 a month per child. The goal of this pilot project is to promote sponsorship for the projected 3,700 children they anticipate serving on program for the 2009-10 school year. If this program proves successful, it will continue in years to come and will help FAKH to further expand the BackPack Program into more Kentucky counties.

The BackPack Program provides about 3,700 children in 21 Kentucky counties including LaRue with a take-home bag of kid-friendly foods at the end of each week throughout the entire school year.
