Longhorn Steakhouse coming to E'town

-A A +A

Elizabethtown residents soon may have a chance to dine in a restaurant inspired by the American West.

The Elizabethtown Planning Commission granted conditional approval for a development plan for Western-themed LongHorn Steakhouse adjacent to Towne Mall.

The steakhouse will be at 1614 N. Dixie Ave., which is the site of a former Blockbuster video store.

The restaurant, once constructed, is projected to be 6,242 square feet, Elizabethtown Planning Director Ed Poppe said in an email.

Officials with LongHorn Steakhouse declined to comment specifically on plans for the restaurant or the attraction to Elizabethtown.

"LongHorn Steakhouse continues to grow, so our real estate teams are constantly looking for new sites across the country," the company said in a written statement. "We do not comment on any specific restaurant plans until a project has received all the necessary approvals."

Referring to itself as the "The Flavor of the West," LongHorn Steakhouse has been serving customers its take on steak, chicken, fish and ribs for roughly 30 years, according to its official website. LongHorn operates more than 350 restaurants in 33 states, including restaurants in Lexington, Louisville and Bowling Green.

Specialty items on its menu include the bone-in outlaw ribeye, LongHorn salmon and parmesan crusted chicken, according to its website.

The steakhouse also is environmentally savvy, designing new and remodeled restaurants with recycled material and the use of natural light, the company says. LongHorn also has switched to energy-efficient light bulbs, adjusted thermostat settings and modified cooking equipment schedules to conserve energy, according to the website. The restaurants use aerators to conserve water and donate to local food banks.

In addition, LongHorn donates a portion of proceeds from pre-opening training events to organizations in need wherever a new restaurant is built, according to the website.
