Locals join summer market tour

LaRue County Farm Bureau members Jeremy and Joanna Hinton of Hinton’s Orchard & Farm Market and Robin and Ashley Lee of Lee’s Garden Center joined more than 40 participants of farm markets throughout the state in late July on the Kentucky Farm Bureau’s 2010 Summer Tour of markets in Kentucky, Illinois and Missouri.

“The Summer Roadside Market tour is a great opportunity for our market members to be together,” said Mark Haney, president of Kentucky Farm Bureau and a Roadside Market member. “Traveling on a tour bus learning from each other and seeing what other states are doing at their farm market is of great value.”

The group visited Trunnell’s Market in Utica; farm markets, orchards, nurseries, and a winery in Illinois and Missouri; and Little Kentucky Smokehouse in Uniontown.

KFB’s Certified Roadside Market program was initiated in 1996 and has expanded to 109 markets across Kentucky.
