Local runners take on Disney Marathon

17,000 took part in chilly January race

Jennifer Keith and Kim Armes competed in the Disney Marathon at Walt Disney World in Florida along with 17,000 other runners in January.

The temperature was a frosty 28 degrees – the coldest in the event’s history. The temperature topped  out at 42 degrees when the pair finished the race.

Armes’ time was 4:48; Keith finished in 4:49. Their goal was to complete the course in five hours.

They plan to repeat the challenge next year.

Both began training in mid-September for the 26.2-mile marathon that traveled through Disney theme parks.

Keith has participated in three other Disney half marathons. Armes will compete in the Princess half-marathon March 7.
