The picnic area at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Park is undergoing some renovations.
The aging pavilion, which was closed in July, has been demolished. The corner posts were rotting and it was considered unsafe. A new one will be constructed, according to Park Superintendent William Justice.
Other improvements are accessible picnic tables and grills, animal-proof accessible trash and recycling containers. A loop trail will connect the existing picnic area pads to allow for easier access between them for people with mobility impairments.
