The LaRue County Public Library will kick off this year’s Summer Reading Program with a Teddy Bear Picnic from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Park.
There will be live music for families to enjoy and Smokey Bear will be there for the kids. The event is free of charge and open to all ages. You are asked to bring a blanket and a sack lunch.
During the event, there will be guest readers and tours given by park rangers.
The Teddy Bear Picnic, originally started by retired children’s librarian Kathy Crawford has been a successful program and proved to be great fun for families. At the event’s beginning, only two people attended. Last year at its reinstatement there were more than 200 guests.
Registration for the Summer Reading Program this year will begin on May 28. This year’s theme is Dig Into Reading.
You do not have to be registered with the Summer Reading Program to attend the kick off event.
