Circuit Clerk office to be open one Saturday each month
For the past 12 years, the LaRue County Circuit Clerk’s Office has been open on Saturdays.
When promises are made by elected officials, it is often the reaction of the public to say, “yea, right – that will never happen.”
I was sworn into the position of LaRue Circuit Court Clerk on Nov. 30, 2000. At that time, the clerk’s office was not open on Saturdays. I promised to open on Saturdays and have kept that promise and intend to keep it as long as I possibly can.
However, I and about 18 other clerks in the state of Kentucky have found ourselves in a compromising situation. The driver’s license office in Frankfort must also be open and manned in order for these 19 counties throughout the state to issue a drivers license. The computers in our office are networked to the computers in Frankfort. Only one person works at the computer in Frankfort on Saturdays. At present, if there is a situation, especially on involving a commercial drivers license in which a correction or clarification must be resolved, it is impossible to issue the license until the following Monday, at the earliest.
As an alternative to being closed every Saturday, an agreement has been reached and the LaRue County Circuit Clerk’s office will remain open one Saturday each month. That Saturday will be the first Saturday of each month.
I realize this can cause an inconvenience to some, but with budget cuts and the possibility of lay-offs, it has become necessary to take this action. The clerk’s office will be open during weekdays as usual, that being 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. We are closed on Wednesday only for lunch from noon until 1 p.m.
I truly appreciate everyone’s support and it has been a pleasure to provide services to the citizens of LaRue County. We will work together through this situation. Please do not hesitate to contact the office for any concern you may have.
