LaRue County Middle School hosted the District 43 Governors Cup competition at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School Jan. 20 and 24. Students from New Haven, Lebanon, Washington County, LaRue and St. Charles Middle Schools competed.
The Future Problem Solving Team consisting of Tyler Skaggs, Sarah Stults, Christian Hensley and Kaelyn Herrin placed second. Tyler Skaggs placed second in math; Raena Hubbell placed second in language arts and third in arts and humanities; Brent Dunn placed third in science; and Zeke Phelps placed fourth in social studies.
Other students who participated in District Governors Cup by taking assessment tests or competing in Quick Recall are Melika Menard, Joey Gearon, Chance Johnson, John Michael Lawler, Cody McDowell, Darian White, Kayla Skaggs, Shea Elswick, Mary Williams, Brian Anderson, Constance Lee, Madison Lee and Mackenzie Vaughn.
Students who won at the district level competed in the Regional Governors Cup Competition Feb. 10 and 14 at Mt. Washington Middle School.
Hubbell placed third in language arts and fifth in arts and humanities. She will compete in the State Governors Cup Competition in Louisville March 14-16.
LCMS academic coach Doris Jean Holleran said very few students across the state make it to state competition in two different areas.
Holleran thanks the ALES teachers for the use of their classrooms; Amber Thurman, Kathy Ross, Rex Hanson, Amy Loyall, Sarah Thomas, Corey Keith, Shari Mabe and Jerry Lawler; and LCMS academic team students and parents for their role in making the District 43 competition a success.
