A winter weather advisory issued this morning by the National Weather Service includes LaRue County. Residents are encouraged to take special precautions early today because of a light band of snow. Accumulations will be one inch or less, according to the weather service statement.
The advisory — issued just after 5 a.m. — is in effect until noon today. Hardin, Meade and Nelson counties also are covered by the alert as is much of southern Indiana and Kentucky counties in and around Louisville. Areas south of LaRue are not part of the 30-county advisory zone.
With temperatures at or just below freezing, the snow will accumulate on untreated roadways, including bridges and overpasses and secondary roadways.
The weather service says periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
As temperatures increase during the day, driving conditions will improve. The extended forecast calls for another rain and snow mix on Thursday followed by declining temperatures and a chance of heavy snow Friday.
