LaRue goes 2-1 in Lady Wave Tip-Off Classic

The LaRue County High School Lady Hawks went 2-1 in the Meade County Lady Wave Tip-Off Classic. Six teams competed in the Friday and Saturday tournament.

LaRue’s Ladies defeated Edmonson County, 62-39 and Meade County, 66-48 on Saturday.

On Friday, LaRue County lost to Russell County, 55-51 in overtime.


The Lady Hawks led Edmonson County, 36-22 at halftime before taking control of the game with a 16-8 burst in the third quarter.

Senior guard Valerie Whitlock led LaRue County with 14 points, three assists and two steals, while eighth-grade guard/forward Alexis Brewer chipped in with 13 points and five rebounds.

Freshman guard/forward Ivy Brown added 11 points and four steals, and sophomore forward Haley Holt scored nine points.

Lyndsay Whitlock had five points; Allison Evans and Alisha Durbin had four each; and Nancy Howell scored two.


The Lady Hawks turned a two-point halftime lead into a double-digit advantage in the third quarter against host Meade County.

Brewer led the Lady Hawks with 23 points and two assists, while senior forward Lyndsay Whitlock chipped in with 19 points and seven rebounds.

Brown added 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Howell scored five; Evans scored four; and Valerie Whitlock added two.


The Lady Hawks erased a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter, but ran out of gas in overtime against Russell County.

Brown scored 18 points, while Lyndsay Whitlock scored 13 and Brewer had 10. Holt and Valerie Whitlock added three each; Zajdel and Seymour scored two each.
