Twelve students from the LaRue County High School Band of Hawks were recognized among the best in the district by being accepted to the 2009 Fourth District Band Directors Association All District Honor Band. These musicians auditioned among students from the surrounding area for spots in one of two honor bands.
Taylor Akin (euphonium), Drew Tucker and Jared Helm (french horn) were selected for the All-District Symphonic Band under the direction of Richard L. Saucedo, director of bands at Carmel High School in Carmel, Ind.
Nathaniel Nash (trumpet), Kellie Owen (trombone), Jeremy Conteras (euphonium), Isaac Burd (tube), Eli Ernst and Travis Hornback (snare drum) and David Cruse (also saxophone) were selected for the All-District Concert Band under the direction of Chuck Campbell – past band director at East Hardin High School, George Rogers Clark High School and North Hardin High School. Caleb Phelps and Jason Wheeler were also accepted in the Concert Band but were unable to attend.
Jaime Smith, Director of Bands of LaRue County Schools, said, “This is a great honor for these students and our school. Any time a school our size has as many students make it as LCHS, you know they are extraordinary students.”
