After failing to win unanimous support from the School Board for the Laptops of LaRue program, a group of supporters is calling for a new vote.
At an organizational meeting Monday of Laptops for LaRue N.O.W. (No Opportunity Wasted), Chamber of Commerce President Kenny Rambo led a discussion of organizing a grassroots petition effort. The goal is to find 30 people willing to collect signatures from 140 adults each. The names will be compiled and presented to the LaRue County School Board in hopes of achieving a new vote on the idea of providing laptop computers for every LaRue County High School student beginning next year.
A vote on the matter failed last week. A decision to request unanimous support from the board killed the measure when board member Norbert Skees opposed the idea. (See related story online.)
The LOL N.O.W. effort also pans to join with similar petition drives circulating among LaRue County students. The group also has developed Web outlets, including a Facebook page. A version of the petition will be made available for downloading.
