Lady Hawks win two in Slam Jam

Volleyball tournament host LaRue County went 2-3 Saturday in the Abraham Slam Jam.
The Lady Hawks (8-11) went 1-1 in pool play – losing to Washington County, 26-27, 26-24, 15-6 and beating Grant County, 25-18, 26-27, 15-9. LaRue County split its crossover matches – beating Fort Knox, 19-25, 25-15, 15-11 and falling to Harrison County, 25-16, 15-14.
The Lady Hawks then fell to Edmonson County, 26-24, 25-17 in the single-elimination tournament. Harrison County knocked off Edmonson County for the championship.
Sophomore Ivy Brown led LaRue County with 25 kills, 20 assists, eight blocks, seven aces and two digs, while junior Haley Holt had 21 kills and three blocks.
Sophomore Lorren Newby added 20 assists, four digs and two aces, and freshman Alexis Brewer chipped in with 11 kills, six digs and four aces.
Loss to Hart
The Lady Hawks started off well Monday night, but couldn’t hold on in a 24-26, 25-23, 25-21 loss to visiting 18th District rival Hart County.
Brown paced the Lady Hawks (8-12 overall, 2-3 district) with 12 kills, seven assists and two blocks, while Holt added eight kills and junior Lauren Meredith had 10 assists.
Junior Miranda Hornback had three aces and three kills, while Brewer had four kills.
