Lady Hawks whip Thomas Nelson in three innings

 The Lady Hawks whipped 5th Region foe Thomas Nelson May 8 in three innings.

Junior Brigitte Skaggs threw a no-hitter and the visiting Lady Hawks erupted for 10 runs in the first inning. 

Skaggs struck out eight and was one walk away from a perfect game.

Skaggs, sophomore Sierra Mullins and freshmen Shakeya Washington, Delany Eastridge and Jill Hughes each had at least two hits. 

Washington went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, Hughes went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, Skaggs and Mullins each went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Eastridge doubled, singled and drove in a run.

Led by junior Courtney Johnson, the visiting Lady Hawks cranked out 16 hits to earn the region victory (12-2) over the Lady Bulldogs.

Johnson went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Junior Peyton Gardner went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, while Skaggs and Hughes each had two hits.

It was more than enough for sophomore Emilee Cundiff, who tossed a complete game with two strikeouts and two walks. Cundiff surrendered just four hits.

Loss to Marion

The Lady Hawks fell 3-2 May 7 to Marion County.

Johnson’s solo home run gave the host Lady Hawks a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, but they couldn’t hold it as Marion County’s Lady Knights scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to win their third straight.

Gardner doubled and scored a run, while Skaggs had an RBI single in the first.

Cundiff allowed seven hits, two earned runs and one walk in seven innings. She struck out one.

Win over Bardstown Bethlehem

The Lady Hawks defeated Bardstown Bethlehem 9-8 Monday.

Hughes hit a walkoff single to drive in Kayla Skaggs in the bottom of the seventh.

Gardner had a three-run triple; Cruse went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple; Brigitte Skaggs went 3-for-4 with a double.

Brigitte Skaggs earned the win in relief, striking out four, walking three and allowing two hits and one run – not earned – in three innings.
