The LaRue County Lady Hawks continued their winning ways Sept. 8 against Hart County. The Lady Hawks won 25-11, 25-27 and 25-7.
“We played a great first and third set with Hart County tonight. The second set was great as well until we stopped playing to win and started making mistakes,” said Coach Ben Schell.
Senior Tessie Embry led the way with 11 kills and six blocks while Brea Huhn and Melanie Huhn had eight kills and four aces respectively. Lauren Patterson and Angelina Marcum chipped in with four kills each and Kristin Thompson had five digs. Molly Kennedy again led in the assist column with 19.
“I have to give Hart County credit in the second set,” said Schell. “They were down 14 points at one time and just kept fighting back but when we had match point in the second set we should’ve finished them off. Tessie Embry had an awesome match for us tonight from the middle and Angelina Marcum was consistent from the service line.”
The Lady Hawks continued their winning streak defeating Caverna in straight sets 25-13 and 25-8 Sept. 10.
Marcum had 10 assists and eight aces; Patterson had six kills and two aces; Brea Huhn had four kills and three aces; while her sister Melanie Huhn had five kills and one ace.
Embry had three kills and three blocks; Haley Holt had two kills and one block, Thompson had two aces while Kennedy had six assists and one ace.
“We were very effective from the service line tonight,” Schell said. “We had 17 aces which is a season high. When playing Caverna, it is of the utmost importance to keep the ball in play and I was very impressed with the ability of all of our girls to do this.”
