Nelson County blanked LaRue County's softball team 4-0 Monday in the opening round of the 5th Region Tournament at North Hardin High School in Radcliff.
Coach Mielle DiStefano's Lady Hawks qualified as the 18th District runner-up and finish the season with a 10-15 record.
During a regular season meeting, the teams had much the same results. Nelson County won 5-0 on April 17 in Hodgenville.
Nelson County was eliminated 24 hours later by the host team. The Lady Trojans defeated Nelson 3-1 in Tuesday's second semifinal. Central Hardin defeated Taylor County 5-2 in the upper bracket semifinal Tuesday. That sets up a rematch of the 17th District championship in the region final Wednesday.
The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. The winner advances to next week's State Tournament.
In Monday's other opening round games, Taylor County defeated Washington County 12-0 in a game called after five innings. Central Hardin knocked off 18th District champion Green County by a 3-2 score. North Hardin defeated Adair County 2-0 in the third game.
