Lady Hawks defeat Knox, North

The LaRue County Lady Hawks breezed to their sixth win of the season Thursday, Aug. 23 in a three-set victory over 5th Region rival Fort Knox.

Host LaRue County finished with three more aces than the Lady Eagles had points as it rolled to a 25-4, 25-5, 25-12.

Senior Lauren Meredith had 10 of her team’s 24 aces, while junior Ivy Brown chipped in with 11 kills and four aces. Senior Haley Holt added five kills, four aces and one block, and senior Miranda Hornback had three aces, three kills and one block.

Fort Knox lost its eighth straight match. The Lady Eagles have not won a set this season.

North Hardin nipped

The Lady Hawks rolled to a three-set win over 5th Region rival North Hardin Monday.

Brown had five kills, two blocks and one ace as the Lady Hawks swept the Lady Trojans, 25-17, 25-11, 25-22.

Hornback , Holt and junior Melika Menard combined for eight kills to help lead LaRue County (7-2) to its second straight win.

“I think we’re playing really well right now,” said Lady Hawks coach Ben Schell. “North Hardin’s got a nice team. They defend well, but I think our size at the net gave us the advantage. Our hitters were so much bigger than their blockers. It’s a good win.”

Hornback also had three aces, while Holt added two aces and one block. 

Meredith chipped in with nine digs and four aces, and junior Lorren Newby had 18 assists.
