Ivy Brown honored by Lexington Herald-Leader

Lady Topper Basketball signees continue to reel in the awards following impressive senior campaigns as Ivy Brown and Shalika Smith added multiple honors following the announcement of the Lexington Herald-Leader’s All-State team on Sunday.

Brown was named the Lexington Herald-Leader’s Girls Basketball Player of the Year in the state of Kentucky while being named an All-State First Team selection. Smith has also been named an All-State selection, earning Second Team honors from the outlet.

Brown is one of the state of Kentucky and nation’s top senior high school players. She led LaRue County to a 24-7 record in 2013-14, including wins in 10 of the final 11 games of the season and an appearance in the Fifth Region Championship Game.

Among the most notable moments of the season for Brown and the Lady Hawks was a Jan. 27, 2014 win over the top-ranked team in the state of Kentucky on the road, Elizabethtown, scoring 27 points, grabbing 19 rebounds and dishing out nine assists in the win. Brown averaged 24.4 points per game and 12.6 rebounds per game for the Lady Hawks as a senior. Brown owns the LaRue County career mark for career points, rebounds and steals.

Brown was previously named Miss Basketball in the state of Kentucky for the 2013-14 season.

Brown and Smith are joined by Jaiveonna Norris (Chicago Heights, Ill.) and Tashia Brown (Lake Park, Ga.) in Lady Topper Basketball’s 2014 signing class.
