It is now time for youth ages 9-14 to register to attend 4-H Camp this summer. The camp is June 29-July 2 at Lake Cumberland.
We also need adults and teens to attend camp, so consider attending camp with your child or grandchild. Adults attend for free because they serve as chaperones. Selected 4-H Teen Leaders pay $75 instead of the full camp fee.
4-H Camp applications for campers, adults and teens are available at the LaRue County Extension Service office at 807 Old Elizabethtown Road, Hodgenville. You may call 358-3401 to have an application mailed to you. The cost for camp is $140, which includes meals, snacks, transportation and a variety of activities. Checks should be made payable to LaRue County 4-H Council.
In order to hold a camper’s spot, the application must be submitted with at least a $75 deposit.
Teen leader applications are also now available. Two teen leaders will be selected for each cabin. Teen applications are due by April 15.
During 4-H Camp, youth have the opportunity to swim every day. Then they get to choose from other activities such as boating, arts and crafts, woodworking, archery, nature, sports and recreation. Campers stay in cabins with about 20 other campers of the same sex.
Youth can select who they would like to share a cabin with, so that if they have friends going to camp, they can all stay in the same cabin.
We have a limited number of spaces available for camp, so sign up early. May 22 is the deadline to submit applications and full payment; however, camp spaces may be filled before the deadline. To hold a spot for your child, return the application with a deposit of at least $75 then pay the full amount before May 22. If you have questions about 4-H Camp, feel free to contact me.
Each year we are in need of funds to provide 4-H Camp scholarships to youth who would not otherwise be able to attend 4-H Camp.
In past years, a few local individuals and organizations have been generous about giving full or partial camp scholarships.
However, the need for scholarships is greater than the funds available.
If you or someone you know would like to contribute a full $140 camp scholarship, or even a partial scholarship, contact me so that we can make camp scholarships available to the deserving youth of our community.
Camp scholarship donations may be made payable to LaRue County 4-H Council and can be mailed to the LaRue County Extension Service, P.O. Box 210, Hodgenville, KY 42748.
