Hodgenville Main Street is working to obtain another grant to enable people in Main Street’s service area to get 50 percent reimbursement for work done on their businesses or homes. The offer would apply only to property owners.
Anyone within the Main Street boundaries is eligible. No historic designation is required. To increase the possibilities of people we serve, Main Street board members voted this month to increase boundaries.
They now include: Lincoln Boulevard north to the bridge and south to High Street. High Street is included from Smith Street to Walters Avenue. Walters Avenue is included from Water Street to High Street. The entire length of Water Street is included, from W. Main to E. Main. Main Street is included west to the city limits and east out U.S. 31E to the city limits. In every case, both sides of the street are included.
This change was actually made in 2005 but has been reconfirmed for purposes of clarification.
The total amount possible is only $20,000. Still that offers our downtown area $40,000 in visible improvements. Remember what a difference in the look of our downtown came from attention to details by many local business property owners with the first round facade grant.
The Office of Local Government is making available a total of $200,000 from funds that were not used in the earlier facade grant program. Obviously, it is a competitive situation.
We are asking anyone who is interested to send us a letter of support this week, saying they are interested. Letters do not guarantee funds for the writer, but do help Hodgenville Main Street compete against other Main Street agencies. If we are successful with the grant application, then there will be a call for applications from local property owners.
