-A A +A

The Bardstown Community Theatre will present “The Homecoming,” a heartwarming comedy/drama, adapted by Christopher Sergel from the book written by Earl Hamner Jr.

Known on television as The Waltons, a family known as the Spencers live at the foot of a Virginia mountain, where they are struggling hard just to survive during the Great Depression. Young Clay-Boy has a secret yearning to be a writer, which is utter foolishness to his hardworking father. As the family is about to give up in despair about the father, who is long overdue in getting home, he arrives bearing a special gift for his son, a gift that reveals unexpected understanding and the strength of a loving family.

The large cast is comprised of veteran actors and young newcomers, who combine to bring Spencer’s Mountain and the small town to life.

Directed by David Goodlett, and produced by Bob Munroe, with special permission from The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Ill., “The Homecoming” will be performed at the Bardstown/Nelson County Civic Center, 321 S. Third St., on Dec. 6, 8, 13, 14 and 15. Friday and Saturday performances will be at 8 p.m. with Sunday matiness at 2 p.m.
