Hodgenville Elementary teacher honored

First grade teacher Peggy Newton was honored as LaRue County’s Teacher of the Year – Excellence in Classroom and Educational Leadership March 18.

Peggy Newton was honored as LaRue County's ExCEL Teacher of the Year March 18. WHAS-11 news anchor Gary Roedemeier presented the golden apple award to Newton at Hodgenville Elementary School in front of her students and peers.

The ExCEL Award is presented to teachers in only eight Kentuckian school districts. It is sponsored by WHAS-11 and LG&E.

WHAS news anchor Gary Roedemeier presented the award at Newton’s home school, Hodgenville Elementary in front of her students and peers. She was awarded a check for $1,000 by LG&E for her classroom.

The LaRue County Board of Education also awards the winner an additional $500 to be used for their classroom.
