Helping children learn and grow

-A A +A

One local childcare provider is working to provide an atmosphere for children to learn and also have fun.

Learn N Grow is located on 29 Magnolia Street in Upton. The state certified childcare center has a capacity of 73 and accepts children from six-week-old to 13-years old.

Owner Maribrooke Sullivan attended Western Kentucky University and has her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education. After graduating from college, she said it was hard to find a teaching job and that she was hoping for an opportunity to come her way.

“I was a certified teacher looking for a teaching job and I simply couldn’t find anything,” Sullivan said. “This place was up for sale and I bought it in July 2014. I love kids and this was the closest thing I could find other than teaching. It all worked out in the end.”

The childcare center is divided up into several rooms including an infant room, toddler room, 2-3 year old room, 3-4 year old room and an after school room which includes 5 to 13 year-old children. She said they provide kindergarten readiness courses to 3-4 year-old children and that they also provide breakfast, lunch and a snack for each child everyday.

“We go by all the state guidelines and regulations. Every employee is also trained in CPR,” Sullivan said. “Our after school kids also get help with homework, and of course, we also have play time for each child.”

Sullivan went on to say that the childcare center is in a prime location.

“We are located right next to 31W which helps us out a lot and we are also centrally located here in Upton. Our service area ranges to LaRue, Hardin, Grayson and Hart Counties,” Sullivan said. “Overall, this is a great job and everyday is different. Every child is challenging and unique in their own way.”

The hours of operation for Learn N Grow are Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information call 270-949-1600 or email sullimj@topper.wku.edu. You can also check out their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SullivanLearnNGrow.
