LaRue County's stay in the 5th Region Baseball Tournament was short lived. The Hawks dropped a 12-5 decision to Elizabethtown in the opening game Monday at John Hardin High School.

The Hawks, who close the season at 15-15, were champions of the 18th District Tournament for the eighth consecutive year.

E'town improved its record to 27-10 Tuesday with a 10-0 victory over Taylor County in the tournament semifinal. Taylor County had advanced with a 12-10 win Monday over Nelson County.

The Panthers will face Central Hardin in a rematch of the 17th District Tournament championship for the region title Wednesday. Central won the district title by a 9-4 score last week.

Central, the region's defending champion, knocked off Campbellsville 12-2 in the second semifinal game Tuesday.

Central Hardin breezed past Bardstown 21-0 in Monday's third opening round game. The Tigers won only two games all season but qualified for the region because the second victory came during the 19th District Tournament.

Campbellsville, which ends its season at 15-13, advanced with a 5-3 victory over Green County in the last of the four games played Monday.

The region champion will advance to the semi-state tournament which features three other region champions. LaRue County High will host the sectional this year.
