LaRue County dropped a 35-28 decision Friday to North Bullitt in the Hawks' first district game of the season. With the road loss, LaRue is now 3-2 ion the season.

Look for details Wednesday in the print edition of The LaRue County Herald News.Coach Rodney Armes knew his LaRue County Hawks were in for an uphill climb Friday night when he saw a one-man wrecking crew, senior running back Dalton Cissell, cradle the opening kickoff and race untouched downfield 95 yards for North Bullitt's first score.

The fourth-ranked team from Shepherdsville scored twice more in the first period enroute to a 35-28 Class 4A District Four varsity football victory.

"Our game plan was to kick away from Cissell, but the kickoff was a little long, and he got his hands on the ball." said Armes. "I'm proud of the way we didn't give up, though; we made it interesting."

Cissell, who last year scored five touchdowns against LaRue, tallied three in Friday night's effort. After his game-opening score and C.J. Parker's PAT, he added his team's next six points on a 51-yard pass from quarterback Jordon Mayberry who ran the ball in for the conversion points, putting the Eagles ahead 15-0. They tallied one more touchdown in the opening quarter, on a one-yard run by David Elmore before LaRue lit the scoreboard.

LaRue (3-2, 0-1) scored one touchdown in each quarter while senior kicker Justin Chelf went 4-4 in points after touchdowns. The Hawks held the Eagles scoreless in the third quarter, but the big first quarter lead proved too big to overcome.

The Hawks first score came late in the first period when quarterback Jordan Brewer completed a 29-yard scoring pass to Tyler Hornback. LaRue drew first blood in the second quarter when sophomore Alex Lee ran the ball in from the five. Cissell answered however, snaring a Mayberry pass and running 44 yards to paydirt. The Eagles led 29-14 at the half.

In the third quarter, junior fullback Ryan Wafford ran the ball into the end zone from North's 20. Chelf's kick narrowed the Eagles' lead to 29-21, but Elmore's 14-yard scoring run in the final period gave his team breathing room as North led 35-21 after the PAT failed. Brewer tacked on six more LaRue points on an 8-yard carry.

Wafford led LaRue's ground attack, totaling 58 yards in 12 carries. Lee, in 12 carries, ran 40 yards; Brewer 9-41, Drew Newberry 9-29. LaRue outrushed North Bullitt 168-151 yards.

Brewer completed eight of 16 aerials with one interception for 135 yards. Lucas Chaudoin suffered an interception on his only attempt. The Eagles (4-0, 1-0) totaled 101 passing yards.

Caleb Cobb caught three passes for 20 yards; Lee, 2-73; Hornback 2-39, and Newberry 1-3.

The Hawks did not fumble. Bullitt fumbled once, but maintained possession.  LaRue suffered 15 yards on two penalties. North was called for three infractions totaling 40 yards.

The Hawks travel to Central Hardin (1-3) Friday.
