LaRue County erased a three-point halftime deficit by scoring 15 consecutive points to start the third quarter and rolled to a 59-49 victory Friday night over Green County in the finals of the 18th District Basketball Tournament in Munfordville.
It was the first District title for the Hawks since 2003. LaRue had finished runner-up the last two years, once to Green and once to Hart County.
The Hawks had four players to reach double figures, led by Tyler Hornback's 14. Others contributing were Christian Seymour 13, Jordan Brewer 12, Bryan Bault 11 and Anthony Brewer 9.
LaRue placed three players on both the All-District and All-Tournament teams. Seymour, Bault and Hornback, all seniors, made both teams.
The Hawks will play John Hardin in the final first-round game in 5th Region Tournament. The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Thursday at Marion County High School in Lebanon.
The two teams did not meet during the regular season. LaRue enters the regional with a record of 23-6. John Hardin is 20-8 overall.
Each district champion draw a runner up from a neighboring district in the first round.
North Hardin opens the tournament at 6 p.m. Wednesday against Green County. The Taylor County-Nelson County game also is on Wednesday's schedule. Bardstown takes on Adair County in the early contest Thursday night.
The winners advance to the semifinals, which are scheduled for Sunday afternoon. The 5th Region champion will be crowned Tuesday, March 10. The championship game will start at 7 p.m.
Admission to the 5th Region Tournament costs $6.
