 Optimist Toy Run

The 6th annual Optimist Toy Run, sponsored by the Optimist Club of Bardstown, is Sept. 29 in Bardstown. The Toy Run benefits the Optimist Club’s Community Action Angel Tree, providing toys to area children who otherwise might do without. Activities will kick off at 10 a.m. at the Nelson County Judicial Center on East Stephen Foster Avenue with a car show sponsored by the Whiskey City Cruisers. Registration for the motorcycle run begins at 11 a.m. and “kick stands up” will be at 12:30 p.m. The route is about 60 miles long and features a stop at Makers Mark Distillery, where riders can tour the facility. Entry fee is $10 or a toy of equal value; the run is open to everyone, individuals or entire motorcycle clubs.

Tractor pull benefits Susan G. Komen Foundation

A tractor pull to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer awareness is Oct. 5-6 at the Hardin County Fairgrounds. Admission for each night is $10. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or purchased in advance by contacting Tim Hornback at breastcancerpull2012@gmail.com, thornback@spechaul.com or 270-268-2431. There will be T-shirts for sale, a silent auction and a bouncy house for kids. Breast cancer survivors will be honored.


Toy drive for Santa’s Helpers

A toy drive and fundraiser will be held Oct. 13 at the LaRue County Fairgrounds. Silent auction, free continental breakfast, music included. Watch future issues of the Herald News for details.


Ride, Race, Raise Awareness for the Cure

Race for the Cure is Oct. 13 at Iroquois Park, Louisville. Ride a bus with other participants from Hardin Memorial Hospital to Louisville; race or walk with others to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. Adult registration is $30 which includes a long sleeved Susan G. Komen Race for Cure T-shirt. Bus returns by noon. Registration ends Sept. 21. Relay for Life T-shirts

The Lincoln’s Warriors Relay for Life team is selling T-shirts with the names of cancer survivors or in memorial as a fundraiser. The cost is $10 plus $3 for each person’s name on the shirt.
