Four men indicted for farm theft

Grand jury finds reason to hold accused for trial

A LaRue County grand jury indicted four men Sept. 20 on charges of burglary, theft of farm equipment and complicity.

Charles Brothers, 36; Joseph Matthew Skaggs, 31; Joseph Frederick “Freddie” DeWitt, 25; and Travis Patrick Hall, 33, all of New Haven, were each indicted on one count of third-degree burglary and complicity; and theft by unlawful taking – farm equipment and complicity.

They are accused of entering the Holt Road property of Billy Frank Harned and Eli Harned and taking several items including a chisel plow, fold-up beds, a stabilizer for a Bobcat, two large wood stoves, a fuel stand for a diesel truck and two calf feeders. The value of the items is valued at more than $500 but less than $10,000. The alleged theft occurred Aug. 28.

Original bond was $50,000; the bond was lowered to $9,500 cash only.

Arraignment is Oct. 4 in LaRue Circuit Court.

The indictment of a person by a grand jury is an accusation only and the person is innocent until and unless proven guilty.
