Figures the two teams who met in the 5th Region Baseball Tournament championship would dominate the all-region team this season.
Central Hardin and LaRue County each placed a total of four players on the team. No other team had more than two selections. Central Hardin knocked off LaRue County, 4-2 to win its third consecutive region championship.
LaRue County had senior Slade Owens named to the first team, while seniors Jesse Johnson and Kyle Sheeran and junior Cole Hughes were selected to the second team.
Owens batted .432 with 13 doubles and 35 RBIs. He was 6-2 with a 2.56 ERA. Johnson hit .414 with 16 doubles, two triples and two home runs. He scored 37 runs and drove in 35. Sheeran had a .398 average and scored a team-best 40 runs. Hughes emerged as the ace of the staff, going 10-1 with a 1.38 ERA.
“Those four guys along with Kyle Meredith were huge contributors,” LaRue County coach Chris Price said. “Slade had an unbelievable career offensively, defensively and pitching. He's done it all. Jesse had a good year coming back from his injury. Kyle did an unbelievable job in the outfield and did a good job getting on base and scoring. Cole really had a great year for us.”
