A former Hodgenville man died July 11 when he was shot by a Jeffersonville, Ind. officer.
Robert Emmett Grattan Jr., 48, was a suspect in a branch bank robbery when he was stopped by an off-duty officer about 1:30 p.m., according to news reports.
The standoff with police and Grattan’s death were documented by TV camera crews.
Police said he refused to leave his pickup truck for five hours, eventually leaving the truck with a gun in hand. Officers fired rubber bullets at him, causing him to drop his gun. He picked it up and pointed it at officers.
