The following tips come from the Extension Service in Louisiana. This is information they found useful after the Hurricane Katrina flooding. During Derby weekend, we all were reminded that high water issues can hit our area too.
Flood waters will contaminate any surface they touch. Here are some kitchen items you must throw out to insure the safety of your food:
•Get rid of all flooded food stuffs except those in sealed, metal, airtight cans or airtight glass jars
•Throw out all opened containers of food
