A Green County man died March 15 after a farming accident north of Summersville.
Green County Coroner Eudell Stilts said Kenneth Hodges, 69, 7530 Hodgenville Road, was spreading fertilizer at approximately 10:45 a.m. when his clothing became caught in the tractor’s auxiliary power unit, according to the Greensburg Record-Herald.
“He apparently got off the tractor and walked around to the back where his sleeve became entangled in the power takeoff,” Coroner Stilts said. “The power takeoff broke and he was able to free himself and get back on the tractor and drive it back to the roadway where his truck was parked.”
The accident occurred on a farm Hodges owned on Elmore Hodges Road near Bloyd’s Crossing.
A neighbor, returning from a business trip to town, spotted Hodges inside the tractor’s cab, slumped over the steering wheel. The tractor was still running.
Stilts said the time of death was about 11 a.m. and the neighbor found him at about 11:30 a.m.
The funeral was Thursday, March 18, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Greensburg with burial in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Bro. Mike Akridge and Bro. Carlos Anderson officiated.
