Beef and Horse Calendars
Free 2012 Beef IRM calendars and 2012 Horse calendars are available at the LaRue County Extension Office.  These wall- style calendars are very useful for cow-calf producers and horse owners. The 18-month calendars give monthly recommendations and suggestions, as well as other information. Supplies are limited. Drop by the office for your copy.
Beef Cattle Association to meet
The LaRue County Beef Cattle Association will meet 6:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at the LaRue County Extension Office. The program speakers will be Amanda Jenkins and Jonathan Shepherd, Lincoln Trail Area Extension Specialists in Farm Business Management. They will discuss The IRS and Beef Farms – Tax Tips, and Business or Hobby?  A meal will be served and all interested producers are invited. Big Tree Contest
The LaRue County Conservation District is hosting a “Big Tree Contest.” To nominate a tree for the contest, contact the LCCD at 358-3132. A representative from the Division of Forestry will take measurements and photo of the tree. The last day for nominations is Feb. 15.
The winner will be recognized at the District’s Award Banquet 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24.
ACRE continues through June 1
Enrollment for Average Crop Revenue Election Program or the traditional Direct and Counter-cyclical Program runs through June 1. For more information about DCP and ACRE programs or other FSA programs, contact the FSA office at 765-2702 or visit www.fsa.usda.gov/KY.

FSA County Committee needs advisors
The Elizabethtown Farm Service Agency, which serves LaRue and Hardin Counties, appoints one or two advisors to the County Committee to ensure a fair representation for socially disadvantaged groups. Solicitation of candidates is being requested.
Each candidate must actively participate in farming in Hardin or LaRue County, be willing and able to serve as an advisor and indicate in writing their willingness and ability to serve.
The appointment shall be a 12-month period not to exceed nine consecutive years and become effective March 1. For more information, call the FSA office at 765-2702.
