 Fish and Wildlife candidates needed

A meeting to nominate candidates for the Fourth District representative on the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission will be 7:30 p.m. CST Tuesday, June 18, at Caverna High School gymnasium, 2276 South Dixie St., Horse Cave. The Fourth Wildlife District includes LaRue County.     

Residents who, for the past two consecutive years, have either purchased a Kentucky hunting or fishing license; or hunted or fished in Kentucky, but were not required to purchase a license, may participate in the nomination process. The names of up to five nominees chosen at the meeting will be submitted to Gov. Steve Beshear, who will appoint one of the nominees to a four-year term, subject to state Senate confirmation. Doors open at 6 p.m. 


Gardener Toolbox classes

Gardener Toolbox classes will be held at the Hardin County Extension office, 201 Peterson Dr., Elizabethtown. “Composting in the Home Garden” will be July 23. No charge to attend. Call 765-4121 to register.


FSA nominations

Farm Service Agency county committee nomination begins June 17.

To be eligible to serve on an FSA county committee, a person must participate or cooperate in a program administered by FSA, be eligible to vote in a county committee election and reside in the local administrative area in which the person is a candidate. The deadline to nominate is Aug. 1. For more information, call the FSA office at 765-2702.


State Fair Entry Deadlines

The 2013 Kentucky State Fair will be Aug. 15-25 and entry deadlines are approaching. Open livestock entries must be postmarked by July 10. (Open Show livestock may actually enter after July 10 by paying a double entry fee, but no open livestock entries will be accepted after July 25). Open show poultry and pigeon entries must be postmarked by July 10, and rabbit entries by July 18.

Entries for all other departments are due July 1, (late entries will be accepted with an increased entry fee, if they arrive at the Fair Office by July 10). Most entries can be made on line at the Kentucky State Fair website www.kystatefair.org.

The Premium List and General Rules can be viewed by exhibitor’s department, and entry forms can be obtained, at the Kentucky State Fair website listed above. The Extension Office also has a paper copy.
